Working with an interior designer on your home is an exciting experience. The below are some of our most frequently asked questions. I hope this helps to understand what it is like to work The Navy Edit.

Q. How long does the process take?

This can vary from project to project and is dependent on the scope of work. If you are working to a tight time frame we are generally able to accommodate this and work with the time you have.

q. why do i need an interior designer?

An interior designer is a crucial part of your building and renovation team. Along with your architect and landscape designer we make sure that your finished project meets all needs and expectations and at the end of the day you come home to a space that you love.

An interior designer takes all the images you have saved from magazines, pintest and Instagram and creates a coheasive design.

We take the stress out of having to make all the decisions you will need to make during your build around your finishes and fixtures (think taps, tiles, flooring, paint colour and so much more).

Q. Why do we charge for the initial meeting?

We charge for the initial meeting as this is a working meeting where we will freely discuss all ideas in detail for the project. We don’t hold back on offering advice, guidance and discussing the project in as much detail as possible during this meeting.

During this meeting we will discuss all your requirments and expectations for the project - budget, timeline, what are style influences and how you like to live in your home.

From this initial meeting we are able to provide a detailed scope of works and a fee proposal for your review.

q. How do you charge?

Fees for your initial meeting our invoiced in advance.

Fees for stage one (concept design), stage two (design documentation) are invoiced as a 40% deposit prior to work commencing and then a 60% balance at the completion of the stage.

Fees for stage three (coordination and design management) are invoiced in advance of any items being purchased.

Some items which are hard to estimate in advance are charged at an hourly rate and are invoiced fortnightly.

q. HOw much of my budget should i allocate to interior design fees?

For each project we quote based on the projects scope of work and other considerations.

q. Do you project manage the build

No. This is the role of the builder who is responsible for the all the trades and the site.

Our role during the build is to ensure that what we have designed is what is built. We make regular site visits to answer any questions the builder has and to check on progress. The builder is responsible for making sure the build runs to time and budget.

Q. can you recommend a builder

Yes. Over our years in business we established great relationships with many builders and trades and are able to recommend a builder for your project that we feel is the right fit. We find that when we are able to work with a team we have worked with previously the projects run very smoothly.

Choosing the right builder for your project is crucial as it is so important that it is a collaborative team effort. We are happy to work with the team you go with.

q. do you get trade pricing

Yes we do and we pass this on in full to our clients.

The discount for trade pricing can range from 5% to 50%.

We charge a coordination and administration fee for any purchases made on your behalf which is outlined in our fee proposal.
